About Fisheries and Livestock

Mandate

To facilitate the development of sustainable and viable fisheries and livestock sectors, in order to ensure food security and enhance the sub-sectors' contribution to Gross Domestic Product.

A district with quality livestock and fish for food security and exports.

Mission Statement

To oversee production and productivity of fish and livestock in order to contribute to sustainable development.

Department of Fisheries

Responsible for the conservation, management and development of fisheries resources and waters in a sustainable manner; regulating fishing operations including aquaculture; issuing permits and licenses; and ensuring fair access to fisheries resources.

Department of Livestock Development

Responsible for enhancing livestock production and productivity, providing an efficient livestock extension system, promoting indigenous livestock, and monitoring the quality of livestock products and services.

Department of Veterinary Services

Responsible for the regulation, provision and implementation of veterinary services to prevent and control animal diseases, improve productivity and enhance public health through research and disease control.

Department of Fisheries and Livestock Marketing

Responsible for facilitating the development of fisheries and livestock marketing systems to ensure increased incomes and contribute to food and nutrition security at household and national levels.

Policy, Planning and Information Department

Responsible for coordinating the development of Fisheries and Livestock policies and plans, programme design, monitoring and evaluation, and providing policy-relevant information for sector promotion.
