The Legal Department provides comprehensive legal services to the Council, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The department handles litigation, contract review, legal advice, and represents the Council in all legal matters. It plays a crucial role in safeguarding the Council's interests and ensuring proper governance.
The department is responsible for providing legal opinions, drafting and reviewing contracts, representing the Council in court, handling labor disputes, and ensuring compliance with local government laws. It also provides legal guidance to all departments and facilitates capacity building on legal matters for Council staff.
The department provides expert legal advice to the Council on all matters including contracts, employment issues, property transactions, and compliance with statutory requirements. This ensures that all Council decisions and actions are legally sound and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
The department represents the Council in all legal proceedings, both as plaintiff and defendant. This includes preparing legal documents, appearing in court, and managing relationships with external counsel when specialized representation is required.
All Council contracts are reviewed and vetted by the Legal Department to ensure they protect the Council's interests and comply with legal requirements. The department also maintains a contract register and monitors compliance with contractual obligations.
